A recent report and warning by the American Academy of Pediatrics highlights how children are vulnerable in disasters, and the consequences can be nothing short of catastrophic. However, it is not the disasters themselves that pose the greatest risk. Rather, it a lack of preparation on behalf of healthcare providers and emergency managers to deal with pediatric emergencies.
