Never place all of your trust in foods that require refrigeration or freezing. Long-term power outages can occur at any moment with no warning, and it is essential that alternative food sources are available during these times. Most perishable items need to be kept at a minimum temperature of 40 degrees in order to prevent bacterial growth that can cause serious health problems. Frozen foods will begin to thaw and present the same problems after a few hours as well.
