Military Alliances in Europe Make Strange Bedfellows

Many people have yet to realize the gravity of the consequences of the Turkish military shooting down a Russian fighter jet near the Syrian border. While both sides claim that they were in the right, mounting evidence suggests that the fighter encroached on the Turkish border and was repeatedly warned to leave. While this is making for a good news story, the potential for this to devolve into a major international crisis is very real and very imminent.
