Anyone who has ever had hemorrhoids will tell you how disruptive and uncomfortable they can be. Many people have episodes that are so serious and persistent that they can become debilitating. While there are a lot of medicines out there that work, along with a host of remedies that have mixed-reviews in terms of their effectiveness, many people don’t think about treating hemorrhoids ahead of time. Let’s take a look at a remedy that can be made at the spur-of-the moment from ingredients that all of us should have on hand anyway.
All you need for this remedy is some fresh garlic, all-natural coconut oil and some witch hazel. Garlic is a powerful medicine against high blood pressure, increases blood flow, strong antibiotic and anti-inflammatory agent. Coconut oil is known for strong anti-fungal as well as anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. It also moistens, soothes and promotes the healing of chafed and dry skin. Witch hazel is known for making swollen veins and blood vessels shrink, as well as being a good anti-itch agent.
Mixing these three ingredients can give you a powerful remedy that is essentially targeted to attack the symptoms of most hemorrhoid outbreaks:
3 cloves of garlic
¼ cup of fresh and pure coconut oil
About 10 drops of witch hazel
Aloe vera (optional)
A garlic masher
Making the Remedy
The first step is to press the garlic cloves into your cup. Get as much garlic out of the press as possible, with the exception of the skin and membrane. Feel free to add another clove or two of garlic if it seems that you don’t have enough. Next, scoop in the coconut oil and mix. You may find the oil more viscous and easier to mix if you keep it in a warm place for a little while to soften it up. You don’t need a lot of heat, just enough to make it a little bit above room temperature.
Give the oil and garlic a good stir or two before adding in the witch hazel. Continue to blend thoroughly until all of the ingredients are mixed and the finished product is consistent throughout. One recommendation is to use a 1:5 ratio between garlic to coconut oil. However, you can experiment with different variations as you like.
You can also add in a little bit of fresh aloe liquid, straight from a plant, as well. Aloe is well-known for soothing a wide-range of skin ailments and helping skin to heal faster. It is also a great lubricant which can help to make inserting the suppositories easier while being less irritating to the affected area.
Preparing and Using the Suppositories
Take your plastic wrap and place it on a cutting board or flat surface. Take a small amount of the mixture and form it into little sausage-like, tubular pieces that are around 1- 1½ inches long. Separate them on the board as you arrange them in rows. Place the suppositories in the refrigerator for about ½ hour or until they become firm. All you need to do now is insert the suppository as needed and you may start to feel immediate relief.
Keep in mind that this remedy can be used as a topical cream instead of a suppository as well. If you want to use it as a cream, simply skip the steps to form and chill the finished product. With both options, apply the remedy every few hours as needed until symptoms begin to subside.
While store-bought hemorrhoid products can be very effective, it’s easy to forget to stock up on them ahead of time. Remember this simple remedy and give it a try then next time you or someone you know suffers from an outbreak. It may be just what the doctor ordered to help relieve symptoms and speed up the healing process.
